Casual Overtime Award Changes

A decision by the Full Bench of the Fair Work Commission has ruled that overtime for casual employees covered by some awards are to be calculated using the casual ordinary rate, inclusive of the 25% casual loading!

Under most awards, casuals are entitled to casual loading, an additional 25% on top of the minimum hourly rate but can sometimes be confusing in determining how to pay casuals for overtime.

To clarify this, during the 4 yearly review the Fair Work Commission has updated the way casual employees are paid for overtime under each award. 97 of the Modern Awards are updated to reflect this change.

These changes are effective 20 November 2020 for all effected Awards except the Aged Care Award which will become effective on 1st March 2021.
