At HR Business Direction, we were honoured to have been announced as a finalist in the 2016 Queensland Safe Work and Return to Work Awards in the category of Best work health and safety practices in a small business.  At the Awards Ceremony, we were thrilled to receive a Commended Award.  “Big deal” you might say! Well, it was to us and through my eyes as the Business Owner, Managing Director and CEO of HR Business Direction, this is why….

It was a big deal to us  because…I was proud of the fact that I care enough to care about my team’s health and safety and was recognised for that.   Sure it is a workplace legislation requirement, sure we have a Workplace Health and Safety System in place, sure it makes good business sense, but I did it because I genuinely care about my team, as workers and individuals.

It was a big deal to us because…I was proud of our Workplace Health and Safety Specialist, Christina Willcox, who worked with me to establish the right system, processes, practices to identify, assess and control the risks to us as individuals and therefore the business.

It was a big deal to us because…I was proud of my team who embraced our Health and Safety practices and I know they care that I care about them.

It was a big deal to us because…I was proud we practice what we preach and get to help others to do the same.  To ensure the Health and Safety of their employees – our small contribution to society and from a commercial perspective, it assists our clients in maximising performance and productivity.

At HR Business Direction we work in a very flexible environment and have ‘workers’ on contract, casual and part time, working flexible hours and working from home, and we are proud of that #futureofwork.  We made safety part of what we do, made it simple and we didn’t make the risks of our flexible environment stop us from doing what we do but we certainly made sure we managed those risks to minimise the risk to our people.

At HR Business Direction we implemented control measures for our risks, with the main ones including personal safety, workplace stress and working from home.

There have been various benefits to both the business and my team which have been invaluable.  We enjoy high staff engagement, open communication, high staff retention and teamwork.

At HR Business Direction we can help you manage your Workplace Health and Safety so you too can get a return from it like we did and continue to do.  At HR Business Direction, we are passionate about both helping our clients get a ROI from their people and creating working environments that support and promote mental health and physical safety.  Our ongoing support of RU OK? is another way we practice what we preach in that regard.  We believe that helping our clients in this way and supporting important social initiatives like RU OK?  allows us make a true difference in society – for businesses and individuals.
