We asked the right questions to make the right recommendations, to assist in improving our client’s income by $100,000 per month
The most obvious solution is not always the correct one….
Business Owners and Senior Managers we work and speak with understand their business, the impact of people issues on their business and even ideas of how to rectify these issues. However, solutions to their problems are not always what they think….
As an example of this one of our clients had been thinking for over 12 months about wanting to introduce bonuses for their staff. Each time we talked about why they wanted to take this course of action, exactly what the problem was and what they saw as the desired outcome. These conversations revealed that they wanted the team to be more engaged, help bring work in, make improvements and drive the business. With each conversation, it was clear to us that that what was suggested by the client was not going to provide the desired outcome. We continued discussions with the client with the goal of finding the best solution for them – after all, every organisation and its people are different.
This case had a little twist as in order to get what they thought they needed the client went to a competitor to develop the solution they had suggested to u (that we advised them wouldn’t work). but…… they came back! The client got back in contact with us and we then discussed how we could determine the best course of action for them to get the desired outcome.
In this case we undertook staff interviews to gain feedback about engagement, motivators and feedback on the business and its culture, it’s leadership and so on. We gained specific feedback to find out why they weren’t engaged, motivated or helping to drive the business and their motivation and thoughts on bonuses. Based on the feedback from these staff interviews, the solution wasn’t what they thought and in fact the majority of the employees were against bonuses and felt it would in fact have the opposite effect.
The main recommendations for our client were around; feedback and communication, team cohesiveness, organisational culture, leadership and management development. We are still in the process of implementing these recommendations with our client.
At HR Business Direction, we will recommend what we believe you need which may be different to what you believe you need or what you think you want to hear. We provide frank and fearless advice about the right thing to do for your business, even when this is hard for us, or you. As with every client we work with and work we undertake, we approach it with considered respect and absolute attention – that’s why in the end it worked for us and our client.
As a result, so far this client has increased income by $100,000 per month and our client is now not constantly worried about losing employees.
